JCI Bukit Mertajam (Malaysia) (formerly know as Junior Chamber Bukit Mertajam) was founded way back in 1964 with JC Dr Sivasundaram as its Founder President. However, the formation of this organization lied in a period of “hibernation” and not until in mid-1975 did we see the revival of Junior Chamber Bukit Mertajam under the Presidency of JC Wong Hin Fatt. During the past years, JCIBM ‘s perseverance and determination to become a reckoned chapter in the national arena was very well received. The strong emergence of Junior Chamber International Bukit Mertajam was not a “fly-by-night” miracle. It was the accumulation of consolidated effort, selfless contribution and the strong support from the Board of Directors and members alike over the past 32 years.

JCI Bukit Mertajam been founded with the purpose which inspired by the Creed or Declaration of Principles are,

1. To develop and advance the purpose of Junior Chamber International;
2. To co-ordinate the activities of its members to achieve these; and
3. To promote the extension of membership to all young persons.

The purpose of Junior Chamber International is to develop the individual abilities and stimulate the joint efforts of young persons for the purpose of improving the economic, social and spiritual well-being of mankind, by :

1. Development of an awareness and acceptance of the responsibilities of citizenship;
2. Individual participation in internal training programs to develop leadership potential;
3. Active participation in planning and executing programs for the development of individual and the community;
4. Promotion of economic development;
5. Furtherance of understanding, goodwill and co-operation among all people.

In order to have better international co-operation, JCI Bukit Mertajam had signed 4 Sisterhood pact before but currently only 2 that is still active. Those are,

1. Island Junior Chamber, Hong Kong (since year 1984)
2. Nantou Junior Chamber, Taiwan (since year 2000)
